The new development version that I have been working on has just been posted at version 6.0. I have had it tested pretty thoroughly but if you have any problems, let me know.
I scrapped two features right now for the first release. I am going to add the language files back soon and I will also be trying to add back the option for external calendars.
Later I plan to implement more event options. One example is recurring events. I hope everyone enjoys. There has been a lot of time spent on this.
Are there any quotes in your post. I am fixing the problem with escaping quotes in the next release.
I didn’t use quotes in my post. Here is a test event with add post enabled. FYI – I set the post for 4 hours in the past (I’m on pacific time) but it seems it always sets these posts for 3 hours in the future. I manually reset the time (in WP manage posts).

btw – the “time” comments above. I’m referring to publish time. It’s always set for 3 hours in the future. I assume that’s by design.
Are you entering the time that way? If so that is the wrong format. Need to use colon(:) not dashes(-). I am looking for an easier way to enter the time to prevent this issue if this is it.
As far the time being off (3 hours in the future), is it possible that your host for you server is in a different time zone. Mine is. I live in Central Time Zone but have to have my server set as if I am in Eastern.
I’ll use colons now and get right back to you. FYI the sample text to the left of the time fields show “-” (HH-MM-SS)
test using colons. BTW the dates are entered using your date picker, not manually (yyyy-mm-dd). Events still don’t show anywhere. The post is below:

Is it just to me that it don’t work to click the event date for more information? Nothing happends when I click on it…
I am using your plugin (6.0.9) and I have discovered a few “rough edges”.
1. The location field does not get updated when you
edit an event.
2. I can’t get the thickbox to display.
3. Not all event information is displayed on mouse over.
If you need an URL to my blog please let me know.
When I set the widget to display in list mode, it does it without any line breaks between events, so it sort of makes it look like one run-on sentence. Is there a setting to change the appearance?
As an update to my last post – the run-on list only occurs in the the more narrow of my two sidebars. It displays fine in the wider sidebar. I’d prefer it in the narrow sidebar, but at least I can use it. Really digging this plugin! Thanks for working on it.
OK, just ignore me . . . now it works perfectly! Probably just user error.
i would suggest that the plugin when it display the calendar view to show the today’s date as well. i would suggest a red rectangular on the today’s date.
If it helps troubleshoot the problem Moose and Lucky reported above (about the plugin inserting the calendar into certain blog posts, where it shouldn’t), this is also happening with the Video Embedder plugin. Similar to the post by Moose, the video embedder plugin uses tags to insert video, such as [vimeo]125463[/vimeo}. When I put that on a page, it displays the entire calendar above the video.
I have had problems in the past with this plugin not working with some themes. Not sure why. But I recently changed themes and works great as far as I can tell.
One issue I have is the dates are not visible on the large calendar. – http://www.michaelschultz.net/calendar
How can you set this plugin to display three letter day abbreviations at the top of the sidebar widget, like mon tue wed..
thank you!
using 6.0.10. Events still not showing. I’ve tried 3 different themes on both Safari and Firefox. Everything else about the calendar seems to work (create posts, navigation, widget display, big calendar display etc.). Just won’t create events that display in any of the calendars themselves – admin, big or widget).
The only other thing I can think of on my end is that I’m running a Mac with LEopard but I can’t imagine that’s the problem.

Some questions (using 6.0.10):
Ability to set event category?
Nothing happends when click on the event date in the events calendar in the sidebar.
Hi Luke,
Great Job! Everything looks to be running smoothly except for the pop-up description is showing the html (both in the sidebar and Large Calendar but works fine in the admin). Can you tell me what might be causing this and point me in the right direction on getting it fixed?
Thank you
Hello, I just encountered a strange problem … i have done something so the event doesn’t show up in my admin-calendar at all (thus making it impossible to edit the entry through the admin panel)
The events show up in the sidebar calendar fine, but they dont exist in the admin calendar.
Maybe it is because my “description” is too long, or maybe it is because i have a link in the desciption?
I tried making test events with smaller amounts of text and they show up fine.
per above, 6.0.11 events still not showing in any calendar

Hi Luke, great application but, I got a Fatal Error when i tried to install it… any cue ?
Thanks
Hi Luke, brilliant plugin, but how can I obtain the calendar that was on the sidebar for 5.8.2 to use with v6?
gbrandt, send me the details of the event you entered.
Eric, what is the error you get?
Here’s the event detail:
Title: Test Event
Location: Test Location
Description: Test Description
Start Time: 10:30
Date: 2008-05-07
End Time: 12:30
url is http://www.myresources.biz
big calendar is ../test
The event detail is taken from the successful “add post for this event”.
Otherwise, event doesn’t show in any calendar.
I have installed this plugin but am having some trouble… like Clint above I have created events that I cannot edit, they show up on the sidebar but not in the big calendar. There also seems to be a problem with the time entries, when I put the time in in 12hr format with a pm it shows as am. So I tried using 24hr format.. and it shows as 24hr. Is there something I am doing wrong when I enter an event? Any help would be appreciated. This plugin is exactly what my client need but I need to have it work correctly for them
Thanks
Larry
Luke, Great plugin! I’ve been using it for a while. (I was Codeman on your old site.) I’ve got one main error which I’d like your help on. I’ll also try to help some here, if you like.
Here is the error: “Fatal error: Call to a member function has_cap() on a non-object in ec_js.class.php on line 22.”
Are you having any problem when you have the Visibility of an event set to something besides public.
Everything is fine when the calendar initializes, but I get the error when I go to the previous or next month and return to the current month.
Thanks.
@shultzy,
Your events are showing up fine on your large calendar. You need to turn javascript on.
@gbrandt,
Your events are not showing up because they are not there. The fields are empty. I can tell from viewing your source code.
Have you checked your database to make sure the events are there?
@Clint,
I tried the same thing and got the same results. I believe it was the link which caused the problem. When I went into the database and deleted the link, the long post showed up as it should.
Hi Luke!
Excellent plugin!
I do have one problem i ran into with the 6.11 release. For some reason when i try to page between the various months, the calendar disappears and never comes back.. I’m using the small calendar. Any ideas?
Here’s the website I’m working on:
http://deepakchopra.com/index.php
Thank you!
Brian
ronbme,
I went into my phpadmin page and looked at the db. Unless the events are stored in an existing table (user, comments etc. etc.) then I don’t see them.
Was I supposed to manually create a new user or something in the database for this plugin??? Or was I supposed to modify .htaccess? I don’t recall seeing that in the installation instructions.
In all other respects the two instances of WP that I’ve tested this plugin, the sites are functioning properly.
I’m confused.
-gb
gbrandt,
No, all of that should have been set up when you installed the plugin. Did you deactive it and then activate it again?
You say that the plugin is working properly on your other sites. Is there anything different about this installation?
ronbme,
I will see what I can find. The has_cap function is built into wordpress. I will do some looking and see what I can find.
BrianB,
I have seen that happen once or twice. I will see what I can figure out.
ronbme,
Actually the plugin is not working on any of the domains I’ve tried it on. What I was saying is that everything else seems to be working on those sites. I’m at a loss as to why the plugin fails to record events.
All are WP 2.5.1. I’m using Safari and Firefox on Mac Leopard.
-gb
ronbme – forgot – all domains are using PHP 4, not 5. Could that make a difference?
-gb
Hi,
same to me. I downloaded 6.11 on WP 2.5, Admin works, calender is visible, but no events can be recorded. I tried PHP 4 and 5, dis doen’t seem to make a difference. The site runs on MySQL 4, not 5 – does this make a difference?
How is the table called and when is it generated? I found a table “calendar”, but this seems to be from another calendar plug-in I tried out.
Ralph
The table xxx_eventscalendar_main was not created. If I run the SQL create statement from the database class with “hard-coded” table name I get an error “near COLLATE…”
@brianb,
Did you install this as a widget? I noticed you installed a “div” statement before and after this, but I’m not sure that’s where the problem is.
@Kimber,
The html showing is a theme issue. Try switching themes and see if that solves the problem.
@gbrandt,
Do you know if you got any errors when you installed the plugin?
Do you have a file titled “phpapperrors.txt” in your WordPress directory? If you do, check this file and see what errors you have.
If you do not have any errors, what do you have in your database for “wp_eventscalendar_main”? (This is where all your data for the Events Calendar is stored.)
If you don’t have anything in the database for Events Calendar, I would uninstall the plugin and delete the folder (directory) it is in. Then I would reinstall it again, paying particular attention to any messages that may be displayed.
ralphs and gbrandt,
I switched all my sites on different servers over to PHP5 months ago. I have different versions of the Events Calendar running on different versions of WordPress. On one site I have it running along with 45 other plugins and I have no problems with it. (That is ver. 5.8.4 of Events Calendar and ver. 2.3.3 of WordPress.)
I think Luke did address one problem with str_ireplace. He changed that to the php4 version, str_replace.
I haven’t checked the code for anything that might be specific to PHP5 and not PHP4 though. Luke might know about that.
@ralphs,
If xxx_eventscalendar_main was not created, there is no way for any events to show up either in the large calendar or the widget. That is where all the data for your events is stored.
Do you know what the full error was? Also, were you upgrading from a previous version of Events Calendar?
ronbme:
erased directory, reinstalled the plugin and activated as instructed.
No error file.
Checked the db and the eventscalendar_main table was *not* created.
I’m hosting with 1and1. Never had a permissions error or any table creation issues in the past installing any plugin.
At least we isolated the problem.
-gb
gbrandt,
Thanks. We’re getting closer. The routine to create the database is called from the main program file.
Try deactivating the plugin and then reactivating it.
Also, if it doesn’t create the database after that, go into the admin calendar and enter some test events for June. The first one or two may not show, but the ones after that might.
Let me know. I’ve got some other ideas on why it may not be creating the database.
Thanks.
ronbme,
no luck. de/reactivated. Added 8 or 9 events. checked sql – no table created (and of course nothing shows)

@Alicia said:
“How can you set this plugin to display three letter day abbreviations at the top of the sidebar widget, like mon tue wed..”
There was an option to do this in versions up to 5.8.4. There isn’t an option to do that yet in the newer versions.
gbrandt,
What happened when you clicked on “Add event”?
I can’t understand why you are not getting errors when the database is not being created.
BTW, I was looking through some of the new plugins and one of WordPress’ moderators had a note that all users should be using a minimum of PHP 5.2. He even suggested that future versions of WordPress might require that. Just a heads up for you. Most hosts will add that if enough users request it.
If all else fails, we could always give you a script to create the database. I’ll wait and see what Luke has to say about it. He might have a solution.
ronbme,
After clicking “add event” the (admin) page refreshes, the fields are again empty and that’s it…
no error messages, nothing.
re php5 – thanks for the info. I have to figure out how my host will allow me to do that with existing sites.
-gb
fyi – my host allowed me to upgrade to php5 by simply adding some code in my htaccess file. I did so. A shot in the dark, but no change to my situation – no events created.
-gb
gbrandt,
That’s good that your host allowed you to upgrade.
Did you deactivate and reactivate the plugin? Did you try to add several events?
BTW, do you have any other plugins which store data in the database? Are those working ok?
