Events Calendar 6.0

The new development version that I have been working on has just been posted at version 6.0. I have had it tested pretty thoroughly but if you have any problems, let me know.

I scrapped two features right now for the first release. I am going to add the language files back soon and I will also be trying to add back the option for external calendars.

Later I plan to implement more event options. One example is recurring events. I hope everyone enjoys. There has been a lot of time spent on this. :)

Hi Luke! Great Widget! Great work. Unfortunately i can’t “create post for an event”. Do you know why. I receive the following error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function escape() on a non-object in /mnt/web7/32/28/51760828/htdocs/cblog/wp-content/plugins/events-calendar/ec_management.class.php on line 54

    THX for your help!

    Hallo Luke,

Thank for your nice calendar plugin.

I have a problem: I used to v5.8.4. It worked nice with WP2.5.
Firstly I upgraded the plugin to v6.0, secondary I upgraded the WP 2.5 to 2.5.1.
The plugin works wrong: It visible in the posts (a big Event Calendar with two Months(!)) but I did not do anything.
I deleted the plugin and data off it from DB table.
I reinstalled the plugin v6.0 but it is wrong.

    Can you help me ?

  4. Jason says:

I am using your new version (6.0.2) and struggling with two aspects.

1: If I set the access level to restrict access, the event is still viewable to public (this was the case in older versions too I think)

2: The date is no longer added to the sidebar. Can still see it on mouse-over, but I miss the dates on the side. Any way to bring them back?

    Thanks
    -jason

  5. Luke says:

The access level is not working just yet. I am getting that going. I am pretty sure it is notated on the form to add and edit events that it is non functional yet.

The dates being missing is my fault. I will fix that today.

  6. Jason says:

Oversite on my part about the access level. I look forward to when this is implemented.

    Thanks
    -jason

  7. flo says:

hi luke, thanks for the fix! How about uploading an image to an event? that would be great! for example posting a flyer for an event. clicking the event would show only the flyer in lightbox style?! THAT WOULD BE AWESOME… ,)

    thx. flo

  8. Steve Burden says:

I am having several possible problems:

    1) large calendar: No dates are displayed on a page (see http://freedomsadvocate.com/rlcfl/current-activites/events/)
–dates do show up on the sidebar widget.

    2) large calendar: No way to navigate to future/past months (see http://freedomsadvocate.com/rlcfl/current-activites/events/)

    3) large calendar: Hover shows html and does not pop up description box (see http://freedomsadvocate.com/rlcfl/current-activites/events/)

    4) Widget: In IE7 getting error on page:
    Line: 402
    Char: 11
Error: Object doesn’t support this property or method
    Code: 0
    URL: http://freedomsadvocate.com/rlcfl/

    which corresponds to this line:
    402: $(‘#events-calendar-27′).Tooltip({
    403: delay:0,
    404: track:true
    405: });

    5) Widget: Month/year overwrites Widget title (‘Events Calendar’ in this case)
    see (http://freedomsadvocate.com/rlcfl/)

    6) Widget: If Widget title is left blank, then the calendar is verticaly centered on the Widget title, but the Month/Year overwrite is ‘fixed’. (I have no example of this as it is just a minor display issue.)

    7) Widget: Hover displays html tags.

I really do love this Plugin…Thank you for all of your hard work on it.

  9. flo says:

Or how about linking an event to an existing post?

  10. Luke says:

I’ll look into both of those suggestions. Thanks

  11. javelin says:

Awesome plugin Luke! Thanks for your hardwork

  12. JohnO says:

Just tried 6.0.3 in a WP2.5.1 installation and I have the same problem as FYGureout in the 2nd comment – I get a large calendar table appearing in the post even though I have only added a sidebar widget.

  13. JohnO says:

I think I’ve maybe realised what the problem is. Is the large calendar only supposed to be displayed using thickbox when an event is clicked on? If thickbox is not installed/working will the large calendar be displayed on the webpage anyway? Do I need to install/enable or otherwise do something to get thickbox working first?

  14. Greg says:

    Hi Luke -

I just installed your latest version 6.0.3 with the option Big Event Calendar on its own page. I added events ok and in the admin edit view the mouse-over works great. In the external view on my blog it does not.

    http://thejunction.net/justfacts/events/

On any date it only shows title on an event with no location or description etc. When these features work it will be great!

  15. Luke says:

    John O,
You shouldn’t have to add anything for the thickbox to work. All this does is shows more details for the events. I will look into the problem with the large calendar showing in all posts.

    Greg,
Make sure that the plugin directory structure is correct….
    /wp-content/plugins/events-calendar
    I sent you an email

  16. Keks says:

    hi luke,

thanks for your great work, but i got a problem in the newes version. If you use a “[” in a post there shows up a big calendar. I’m using wordpress 2.5.1 and event-calendar 6.0.3.

    greats

  17. Luke says:

I am not getting that problem. Is anyone else having that problem, and if so have you seen any patterns?

  18. JohnO says:

There’s a comment from Benoit on this post suggesting that the large calendar appears on pages with lightbox-ed images. That would certainly be true of my blog but I haven’t tried it on a page with no images. Will have a play and see if it is that.

  19. JohnO says:

Yeah, that looks like the culprit. If I just have an image it’s fine. If I have an image that is lightbox-ed, the large calendar shows up. I was trying 6.0.4 as I just caught that in my plugins page.

  20. Brendyn says:

Great update! Thanks for adding, “create post for event”

  21. JohnO says:

    A couple more issues:
Like Greg, I don’t get the full mouse-over details on the events list – only Title and Description.

Also, when dragging the widget to a new position, it ‘disappears’ until the page is refreshed.

  22. moose says:

    Hi!

First I have to say that your Events Calendar is a very useful plug-in. There aren’t any plug-ins on the internet which give you the option to post future events like yours does. Very great!

But after I updated my Events Calender from 6.0.3 to 6.0.4, there were added full calendars to several posts in my blog. I tried to downgrade to 6.0.3 and 6.0.2 but without success. There aren’t any tags in the html-source of my posts. Can you help me?

  23. Atreid says:

    Hello!

I’d like to say first that your plugin is awesome. Being new to the blogging thing, i’m still learning the ropes. Hence my question… :)

Is it possible to link a Post i made on my blog with the Calendar Event? I mean, the calendar event would also showing that there was a post made on this day.

    Cheers,

  24. Luke says:

Moose, I am checking on this problem but am having trouble recreating it. Anything else that was done that might have caused it?

Atreid, There might be ability to link post to event at a later time.

  25. moose says:

    Thanks a lot!

Unfortunately I had to deactivate the plugin so that my readers aren’t confused by all the different calendars :D

If you need a screenshot from a post with the plugin activated, let me know.

Here’s the URL to my blog: http://blog.2furious.de/

Posts where a full calendar is shown:
    - Niedersachsen Tunerz Day 2008 (27. April 2008)
    - First Tuning Sunday Hannover (20. April 2008)
    - Family Day Nienburg 2007 (23.09.2007)
    - Tuning Day 2007 (30. Juni 2007)

Perhaps this helps you to find the reason.

    Thank you again!

  26. Kenny says:

    Hey there Luke

First of, thanks for truly great widget events calendar. 2-3 months I wanted to established my site using Drupal, but since my time is limited I now opted for WP 2.5 and using your widget might just get the important stuff done.

I am however experiencing problems when adding events where the descriptions contains more than just a single or two lines. If I add periods or commas, the event itself shows great in the widget, but disappears from the admin calendar.

Any ideas? I’ll let you know if I find the issue myself.

    Thanks for everyting.

  27. Dave says:

    Luke,
Just ran across your calendar. VERY nice work.

There is one thing I wanted to mention to you… some comments here are a little confusing, because they seem to be confusing “Access Level” with “Visibility Level”. Or maybe not.

Anyway, I wanted my client to be able to update the calendar, and I don’t trust him as an admin, because he’s a beginner. I tried changing Access Level with that in mind, but it didn’t “save”, so maybe that’s related to what you’re fixing.

I look forward to your updates!
    Thanks, Dave

    Thanks for the good work!

  28. sean says:

Thanks, Luke for your work on this.

This is my first time using this plug-in, so this may be a common problem I’m just not aware of. I’m running WP 2.5.1 and the version 6.0.4 of your plug-in. When I put the large calendar into a page and click to go to the next month, I get a directory structure of my wordpress directory. Same thing if I click to go back a month.

Is there a setting I need to change in my WP setup?

  29. nicholas says:

    Hi Luke,

Great plugins! It is very useful to me.

I placed the puglins in my sidebar using but how can i display it using list instead of calendar?

    Thanks.

  30. Alicia says:

I am having a similar problem as Sean is – in my widget when i click over to the next month I get the main page of my blog.

  31. Luke says:

I will see if I can recreate this problem and get back with you.

  32. Jim says:

    Excellent work Luke. Great plugin.

I too have the same problem as Dave. Changing the access level is not saved. Checked the database table to see if I could force a change but cannot find it listed.

Thanks for all your hard work.

    Regards

    Jim

Added the big calendar code to my About Page and received this error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: str_ireplace() in /homepages/26/d118044004/htdocs/observer/wp-content/plugins/events-calendar/events-calendar.php on line 121

Plugin is activated and when I use a widget, the calendar shows in the sidebar.

Adding an event in the Admin panel has no effect (calendar remains blank)

WP 2.5.2 and latest download of the calendar.

    What am I doing wrong?

  34. gbrandt says:

Quick edit from previous: I’m on wp 2.5.1 not 2.5.2 (typo)

Just loaded the plugin on a second domain (wp 2.5.1 also). Same behavior. Can’t add events. Basically non-responsive other than being able to page back and forth on the months.

Is there anything else to besides just activate the plugin and put the big calendar command on a Page?

  35. Luke says:

I am now getting the same problem as some with the events not saving. I am examining the sql and everything seems to be ok. Any developers out there want to take a peek at it, feel free.

  36. gbrandt says:

the url for my site is http://www.oldtownobserver.com/test

This is now different. The calendar doesn’t show at all…

  37. gbrandt says:

latest error – tried it in a post:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: str_ireplace() in /homepages/26/d118044004/htdocs/observer/wp-content/plugins/events-calendar/events-calendar.php on line 121

  38. Luke says:

str_ireplace is not included in php5, I changed it to use str_replace to take care of this.

  39. gbrandt says:

    OK – progress.

The big calendar now shows up everywhere it’s supposed to – posts, Pages etc.

However, it still won’t add events in the admin interface – and hence nothing shows up in the admin calendar nor on the Page I”ve placed the calendar. However, checking the box to create posts from the event does work. Scrolling through the months does work also.

I don’t know what the admin interface is supposed to look like. However I get the add event icon on the left followed by the entry fields centered in the column. Then I get a light horizontal dividing line. Beneath that is nothing except for an identical add event icon on the left. And nothing more. Is that what it’s supposed to look like?

  40. sean says:

Could it have something to do with the blog address and the wordpress install being different?

    Blog is example.com
    WP installed at example.com/wordpress

  41. gbrandt says:

My wordpress installation in both cases is the “root”. It’s not in a subdirectory. Is that what you meant?

Or are you saying for this plugin to work, WP has to be in a subdirectory of the domain???

    -geoff

  42. sean says:

I was just trying to determine if where wordpress is installed is effecting the performance of this plugin, particularly the problem Alicia and I are having.

  43. Luke says:

Installing wordpress in a any directory should work. The events calendar directory just needs to be in the following directory relative to wordpress.

    wp-content/plugins/events-calendar

  44. Evan says:

Great looking plugin. I’ve noticed that if I use an apostrophe it in the title of the event, it won’t post. Is there something different I need to be doing?

  45. moose says:

    Hello again!

I found some time to find out the reason why your plugin showed a full calendar in several posts of my blog!

I’m using another plugin called “NextGEN Gallery” which helps me to insert galleries into my blog.
To insert a single photo of a gallery you can use a special tag that is interpreted by the plugin.
    Here’s an example: [singlepic=251,160,120,,right]

Everytime I use a tag like this, a full calendar is shown in the post. Perhaps you could be so kind to think about the reason and fix this in your next version because this function of the NextGEN Gallery is very useful. Thank you!
I’m very happy that I can use your plugin again :)

  46. Luke says:

I will see what I can find.

  47. gbrandt says:

up tp 6.08 – anyone else still having the problem of new events not showing up in the admin calendar nor the published calendar?

tried disabling all plugins but still no joy.

    -gb

  48. anginux says:

    Hello,
Your Plugin is great@! And I would like to see you succeed in this with a stable version.

I just want to let you know , that I think somewhere in your code you are tapping into the NExtgen Gallery, and it kinda breaks it , you might want to check on that. I am using your latest. 6.0.8. I lost the little flash or java thing that scrolls on my nextgen.
I am confident that you can fix that.

Suggestion : what about writing a post and a check mark to link to the events calendar?

  49. lucky says:

    Hi Luke,

I started using your cool Events Calendar (6.0.8) in WordPress 2.5. But I am experiencing some problems with it.

My main problem is similar to the one ‘moose’ seems to have about using the NextGEN Gallery in combination with your plugin. For some reason it is being displayed on 1 particular page where I use the [Gallery] tag of NextGEN.

In events-calendar.php I saw a function called filterEventsCalendarLarge(). When I change the stringpos funtion and the ‘[[...]]’ tag into:

    if(preg_match(“[EventsCalendarLarge]“,$content))

then it solves my problem and I can use the [EventsCalendarLarge] tag to display the large calendar on a specific page. Hope this helps in finding the root of the problem.

Furthermore I am having some problems in pressing the previous and next months links in the widget, e.g. not displaying the next month, but showing the animated progress bar.

Thanks so far for all your hard work.

    Lucky

  50. gbrandt says:

The “write post” feature works – the post shows up, but no event is ever visible in the admin or the published big calendar…
