Events Calendar – New Development Version Available

The new development version is posted to wordpress now. It is under the development version and is not posted as stable yet. There are some more things to implement but it is usable. The list version for events is not there yet and the external calendar section is not there. If you are wanting to test the new version, go for it and let me know what you think. If you want to be put on the tester list, contact me through the contact form.

The main difference in functionality is when date is clicked on, a thickbox will pop up with the days details. Other than that it is pretty similar but I think I am getting a lot of the kinks worked out.

Let me know what you find.

It can be downloaded at http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/events-calendar.zip

The best way if you have access is the subversion server so you will always have the latest. It is at http://svn.wp-plugins.org/events-calendar/trunk

I haven’t tested this but as an idea, i think, better than (any kind of) popups would have been an option to define URL (on own blog or anywhere else) and that would be opened onclick. Existing tooltip feature wouldn’t have to be removed.

That might be something that I include as an option. I have gotten that request a few time but the problem with making that the standard is that many people will have many events on the same day and it would not be beneficial for the link to go to the same page. There will be the ability to add links in the description and visit the page from the popup.

    Luke,

If my members login they can manage all calender settings! What can i do about it?

Okies, I’m getting something that’s quite different than what’s showing in your sidebar when I download and run the latest version from the wordpress.org, instead of getting the previous and next months at the bottom, they’re in a drop-down menu above the calendar. Also, rather than a popup (which I preferred), all I get is a box that only shows when hovering over a date, which make any clickable info in the box useless. Any pointers?

One detail I forgot to mention: is it possible to hide the end date and end time? If you can point me to the lines in the code, I can message them out if you don’t plan on making that an option. Thanks. :)

If you want to get the development version, this is taken care of there. I haven’t released it as stable yet, but it will be soon. In the mean time you can get it from here.

    Hi Luke:

Thanks for the plugin. I started using it before and recently updated it to your development version.

When I browse through months, the size of the font increases. It continues to increase no matter which way I browse.

The site I’m using it for is going live over the weekend, so any info is helpful. Perhaps I should just wait for the stable release?

Can you let me know what theme you are using. I had the same problem with one them and I am trying to find a pattern that is causing this problem.

  10. Brendyn says:

    Cutline 3-Column Split 1.1

I looked at it in IE and Firefox and it has the same problem.

    Thanks for responding so fast!

  11. Luke says:

That is the same theme I was having trouble with. I have no idea as of now what is causing this problem.

  12. Brendyn says:

    Ok, thanks!

  13. Luke says:

In that theme, the style.css sheet needs to be edited. On line 248 you will see the entry for it. The problem is that it is set with em. I haven’t had the problem with that and other themes but when I changed it to px, it worked. I will still find a solution for it.

  14. Brendyn says:

It worked! Thank you much Luke.

Cool stuff! Been messing around with the dev version and I love where you’re taking this. :)

FYI, one issue I noticed is that when I place the calendar in the right sidebar – either as a widget or as a non-widget plugin – it displays repeatedly a large version of the calendar in the center column of my blog (Revolution news theme). I haven’t had time to dig into the issue much, but it does seem to appear in posts where I use the lightbox to display larger versions of images.

  16. Brendyn says:

As you continue to develop this, would you include the option for an event to create a post as well?

  17. Bryen says:

I’ve installed this development version and so far generally things look great. However a couple of things:

    1) When I return to the Events Calendar none of my entered events are listed. So I can’t edit/delete.

    2) It looks like when I put two events onto the same day, the second entry omits the “Location” information. Then again, I can’t go back into the Events Calendar to be sure that such a field was left blank or not, since I can’t see the event there.

I can see the events listed in the widget however.

    Any suggestions?
